NBA Finals: Durant Goes Off; Dubs Drub Cavs in Game 1

Last season, the Golden State Warriors set an NBA record for regular season victories.

That'll make some trivia contestant happy a few years from now, but that's just about it.

So this year, they're trying something more relevant in this day and age of playoff-oriented glory:

Most wins in the post-season, where they're 13 and counting.

So sayeth the überdude who the rest of the league thinks would be a perfect spokesman for this year's NBA Finals.

However, the choice here would go to John Stockton and Karl Malone.

Dudes had the game's oldest play down to perfection.

Credit the club that made arc-first offenses the trend du jour for reverting to it when Cleveland went balls-out to stop the treys.

The pick-&-roll gave Kevin Durant the headlines as Golden State coasted to a 113-91 blowout.

The Dubs racked up 31 assists along the way, with only 3 of their 13 players not recording one.

Meanwhile, the defensive strategy that left them one game short of a title last season was in full force again. Golden State let LeBron James run roughshod, made Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love work for everything they got, and virtually skunked everyone else.

Cleveland's D has been nothing more than a rumor all season long and did nothing to dispel it in Game 1.

So now it's adjustment time, for both teams.

And record-setting time for the Dubs if they can claim Game 2.

As if, as they discovered last season, they really mean anything when all is done and dusted.
