Clippers Spot the Dubs 35, and then Go to Town
It's easy enough to pass Game 2 off as a blip on the Golden State Warriors' radar screen.
However, it doesn't seem like the team feels that way right now.
Their locker room was quiet after the game, likely soaking in all that just happened to them, such as:
- Allowing a young Los Angeles Clippers squad to post 81 second-half points, and
- Losing Boogie Cousins for the rest of the playoffs, no matter how long they may last.
The defending champions may also have been ruminating on their deteriorating relationship with the ball. After turning it over 21 times in Game 1, they outdid themselves in this one by committing 22.
Nine of those were by Kevin Durant.
Fertile ground for barfing up what shoulda been a good morning, good evening, and good night situation by halftime.
But no.
The Clips' historic comeback from 35 points down to take Game 2, 135-131, eclipsed the 29-point charge that the Los Angeles Lakers laid on Seattle's SuperSonics back in the 1989 Western semis.
This put paid to the Dubs' seven-game post-season winning streak.
On what little bright side there was, Kevin Looney picked up the slack from Cousins' absence. Dude popped 19 points, going 6-for-6 from the field.
The Clippers, meanwhile, are giving hints that they're gonna be a pesky out. Doc Rivers has his club's confidence growing by the quarter. Of course, a 44-41 second half split -- in Oak Town, yet -- has a way of doing that.
For at least another game or two, this series is gonna be something to watch.
Among other things, it's the only playoff action in LA.
