Battered and Boozed: Bathing in Wine Is Fine for Amar'e Stoudemire; JaVale McGee Prefers Vodka

There's a fair chance that the Knicks will drive their fans to drink this season.

One player in prime position to foot the bar tab is Amar'e Stoudemire.

Since early in the year, the former All-Star has been regularly soaking in red wine to have his body at optimum intoxication levels for the rigors of the 82-game schedule.

"The red wine bath is very important to me because it allows me to create more circulation in my red blood cells," Stoudemire hiccupped following Knicks practice on Thursday. "Plus, it's very hot, so it's like a hot tub. But it's also the red wine ... just kind of soothes the body."

While the practice is unusual, the employment of booze in recovery is not unheard of. Denver Nuggets' centre and the NBA's resident mad-lib, JaVale McGee, has long used vodka as his source of rejuvenation.

"I swear by it," he told The Daily Player. "I get in a vodka tub at least three times a day."

"I actually use vodka for everything -- cleaning the windows, washing the car, topping up the aquarium."

"It's made me the player I am today."
