Raiders Revel in the Return of Chucky

Here's the coolest quote ever uttered by Al Davis:

The other team's quarterback must go down ... and he must go down hard.

It's not exactly a deep thought in the football world, but the fact that it came from Davis just makes it so Raiderish.

Kinda like his assertion that the vertical game is the Holy Grail of offense.

Davis, of course, put on that Great Silver Helmet in the Sky back in 2011.

Gotta wonder what he's thinking about the only winning coach ever to walk out on him is returning to Raider Nation.

Well, based on that forthright citing of reality, Jon Gruden's gonna give Oakland his best effort for the next two years, after which he'll assumedly do the same for Las Vegas.

As the proud owner of a 10-year, $100million contract, dude's exacted a strong measure of tenure security. If things go off the rails early, how would owner Mark Davis buy him out?

Remember, Al's boy dines at Hooter's and, more than most NFL owners, needs other people's money to do big deals. With that contract, Gruden's buyout would indeed be a big deal.

Give to the locals, though.

They're fatalistic about the franchise, but while they've got it, they're hoping Gruden finds a way to get them the hardware just one more time.

So Chucky's got some work to do. How much he'll revert to Al's revered Old School is anyone's guess.

Just know he'll start with taking a hard look at the Raiders roster.

Odds are more than just cities will be changing for the Raiders over these next two years.
