Wimbledon: Nadal Exits after Marathon Fifth Set

Three other nations may disagree, but the Slam of Slams is still played at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in a suburb of London.

It maintains a few of its oh-so-posh traditions, which seems to keep everything that enters the staid sporting complex in SW19 frozen in its own time.

However, its stewards have also seen fit to modernize others.

Overcharging for concessions like strawberries and cream comes to mind.

Even more notable is the impression that, every July, Wimbledon seems to produce more highlights in a fortnight than any other racquet tournament.

Today was packed with them, headlined by Rafael Nadal's continuing struggles on grass surfaces and top seed Angelique Kerber getting bounced, losing her WTA No 1 ranking in the process..

With Gilles Müller and Progrès Niederkorn rockin' it, this has been a week for Luxembourg sport that it probably hasn't seen since disgrunted Austrian skiier Marc Girardelli roamed the slopes two decades ago.

Meanwhile, while losing the war, Nadal still won the battle for point of the day:

The men's top seed is defending titlist Murray. If he disposes of 24-seed Sam Querry from the USA, he'll meet either Müller or the accomplished Croatian, Marin Čilić, who knows what it takes to secure a Slam championship. Dude earned his at the 2014 US Open.

He's played the favorites heads-up during his career and could now be the underdog to watch.

The women's bracket has been wide open even before Kerber tumbled out of it.

Garbiñe Muguruza has been playing out of her mind here, and Venus Williams has shown mental strength in the face of tragedy.

Their quarterfinals are tomorrow, with the featured match being the highest remaining seed, Romanian Simona Halep facing feelgood story and aforementioned hometown heroine Johanna Konta.

Lotsa opps for more highlights. Except the bill for strawberries and cream.
