US Open: Sloane Stephens Slams Her Way to First Slam Title

Well, that was a no-doubter.

It took only 61 minutes for unseeded Sloane Stephens to totally demolish her close friend Madison Keys -- 6-1, 6-0 -- to earn this year's US Open championship.

In fact, if their post-match embrace at the net went on any longer, it could've qualified as a third set.

Given the match itself, the hug could rightfully be called the top highlight.

Maybe it was nerves that prevented Keys from coming nowhere near the form she showed is dismissing fellow American Coco Vandeweghe -- 6-1, 6-2 -- in their semi-final.

Well, on this day, it certainly wasn't Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Stephens, had a go of it disposing of Venus Williams in her semi-final, but she was on her game for this one and clearly never stretched:

Stephens was so untested, she only committed six unforced errors.

Not counting what happened after this hoist:

She damn near dropped it soon thereafter, with only the lid hitting the ground.

Last but not least, the 24-year-old kept it 100 after receiving the biggest cash prize in US Open history.

$3.7million will definitely spend at Safeway.

And so, a wild fortnight that began with one unseeded entrant in the spotlight ended with another who stole the show.

It probably won't be the last time that happens.
