Sharapova Knocked Out of Wimbledon

So much for that Maria Sharapova v Serena Williams final at Wimbledon.

Sharapova didn't hold up her end of the bargain, losing to the 131st-ranked player in the world, Michelle Larcher De Brito, 6-3, 6-4.

Meanwhile, Williams cruised easily into the next round at the All-England Club.

Sharapova and Williams had a back-and-forth semi-catfight last week when Williams made some unkind comments about her rival in Rolling Stone, and Sharapova responded in kind.

Williams would later apologize, but apparently it looks as if may be that Sharapova should have paid more attention to what's been happening on the court than what's being said about her, which was the kind of advice she was giving to Williams last week.

Although it would have been nice to see a Williams/Sharapova rematch, in all likelihood, we would have been bored to death. Williams has dominated Sharapova the last few years, with a 14-2 overall record that includes defeating her in the French Open final.

In fact, Williams hasn't dropped a match to the Russian since 2004.

Perhaps a challenge in football drills would be more even.
