Serena Pops a Pec, Forced to Withdraw against Sharapova

Observers at Roland Garros could tell something was amiss on Sunday.

That's when Serena and Venus Williams tumbled outta the doubles event the French Open, losing to No 3-seeds Andreja Klepač and María Martínez Sánchez, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 0-6.

Serena's serve was only clocking 73mph. It's usually around 120mph.

The day before, after dispensing with 11-seed Julia Görges, 6-3, 6-4 ...

... Serena made no mention of aches and pains but did depart her presser early to, as she claimed, get back to her baby.

Her right pectoral muscle got angry sometime in between, and that's caused her to pull outta the tourney right before her hotly anticipated match with longtime foil Maria Sharapova.

But alas, Serena's injury means it's gonna have to wait.

That's gotta break the Russian's heart, being as how she's 2-19 against Serena. Hell, even the Washington Capitals have fared better against the Pittsburgh Penguins, their post-season rival.

Being as how Serena's bouncing back from giving childbirth and Sharapova's almost back in form after her suspension, this might've been a match.

Then again, maybe not.

Another day.
