Federer Turns Cruisin' into Losin' at Wimbledon

Did Kevin Anderson play the match of his life or what?

Or is dominating Slams at the age of 36 a bridge to far?

While those observations and more are ripe for discussion over the always overpriced strawberries and cream here at SW19, the pint-pounding punters elsewhere in the area and beyond are bowing in the direction of tipster Steve Calvert.

Dude had his own reasoning for calling Anderson to take out Roger Federer, and it made incredible sense.

Had Federer read the analysis, even he might've taken a flutter on the South African.

His most conservative recommendation was to take the over at 34½ games.

That might've looked grim after the Swiss master raced out to claim the first two sets, but Anderson held strong to win the final three sets and complete a 2-6, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 6-4, 13-11 comeback victory.

Full marks to Anderson, but that's a classic collapse.

This was one of the few occasions where a living legend like Federer reminds the tennis world that he actually is human, and his clay feet started showing halfway through this four-hour-plus battle.

Federer had match point in the third set when Anderson was down 4-5 and served at deuce. The 8-seed unleashed a 132mph scorcher that Federer could only clip with his backhand.

From that moment onward, it was Anderson's match.

Federer's run at a record-breaking ninth Wimbledon singles title will now have to wait until he's 37. At least.

With Father Time probably wearing a Swiss watch, it's not gonna get any easier.
