Djokovic Stopped by Thiem in French Open Quarters

Right now, this can't be called an upset.

First of all, Dominic Thiem came into the French Open ranked No 7 by the ATP and was seeded No 6 here at Roland Garros.

Secondly, the dude he beat in the quarter-finals is no longer the Djoko-Cop.

Nothing says ground down quite like a 7-6 (5), 6-3, 6-0 set progression.

Full marks to the Austrian. At the very least, he was into it.

Certain observers weren't so sure about Djokovic.

The harsh reality is he's 30 now and has won only one once in eight singles events this year. Compare that to picking up seven titles in each of the past four years.

There are some things one simply can't escape.

The first signs of decline may have surfaced at the Olympics, when Djokovic was surprisingly ousted and visibly disappointed about it.

His testy performance last fall in Shanghai further indicated that the Serb was more than just off his game, which became even more evident when he tumbled outta the Aussie Open.

Give the lanky Serb credit for realizing something had to change, but wonder why he thought André Agassi's trials and tribs would shed light on the matter.

Apparently Agassi figures he can swoop in, offer wisdom, and take a powder afterward. He's not the dude holding a racquet right now, but his peers believe he's not doing Djokovic any favors.

Meanwhile, Thiem's hot right now and is confident on clay.

He'd better have a few more volleys like that ready to go.

Next up is Rafael Nadal.
