Wolves Return to the Premiership; Draw with Everton

English football top division was formed 'way back in 1888, and one of its founding clubs has just returned.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers racked up 99 points in winning the Champions League title and earning promotion to the top tier for the first time in six seasons.

Naturally for a side that goes hand-in-hand with the country's footballing history, Wolves fans were ecstatic at ageless Molineux Stadium for their return to the big time.

It was a value-for-money afternoon, too, as their heroes and Everton locked up in a rouge-tinted 2-2 draw.

The makings were there for a cracking match, too:

  • Wolves because of the amazing season they had last year, while
  • The Blues because of their frantic final day of the transfer window.

The match started with all eyes on 21-year-old Brazilian striker Richarlison, who cost Everton £50million, and dude soon showed why he was rated so highly.

In the 17th minute, after a blocked header from Michael Keane, the ball fell perfectly for him to score the opener:

Things were unfolding perfectly for the Blues, but then, in the 41st minute, a spanner got tossed into their works.

Phil Jagielka was sent off after bringing Diogo Jota down.

Three minutes later, Wolves found their perfect opportunity to equalize, and Ruben Neves was the dude, not giving chances to Jordan Pickford:

Even being a man down, Everton kept up the pressure, which ultimately became a goal.

In the 67th minute, Richarlison was rewarded for an excellent effort, killing any chance of resistance from the Portuguese 'keeper Rui Patricio:

After that, it seemed like Wolves noticed something significant.

They finally started playing like it, sending a veritable fusillade of balls into the area.

In the 80th minute, it worked. Neves curled a perfect dime to Raúl Jiménez:

Both sides came away from this one with positives.

The Blues on all cylinders looked consistently dangerous, and Wolves appear to have picked up where they left off last season.

It bodes well for an extended stay in the Premiership.
