Tottenham Embarrassed by Newcastle United

Talk about mailing it in!

If anyone wondered whether Tottenham Hotspur's season actually ended with Chelsea's late goal two weeks ago, they're not wondering now.

Newcastle United must've wondered why Spurs were playing five-a-side when eleven were allowed. At least, this match looked that way, as the Magpies cruised to a 5-1 shellacking.

Adding insult to inertia, Spurs wound up finishing the season below their rivals Arsenal.

A nightmare to forget, for sure.

Georginio Wijnaldum has been one of the Newcastle's few bright lights, and he showed why:

A talented strike, that one.

Aleksandar Mitrović rubbed salt on Spurs' wounds when he scored the second:

A headed goal is always a wonderful goal, except maybe to neurosurgeons.

Erik Lamela finally squeezed one in for Tottenham to keep matters interesting:

Dude smashed that as hard as he could.

But Spurs blew their chances of leveling it up when they awarded a penalty.:

Wijnaldum, as always, scores the crucial ones for the Magpies.

After that, it was to Rolando Aarons to dump more misery on Tottenham:

Daryl Janmaat signed off Newcastle from the Premiership with some class.

And with that, the ongoing mystery as to why English football's long-labeled sleeping giant is that way can be pondered next season in the Championship League.
