The Reign of Spain Is Under Siege Again

The defending EuroCup champions have taken their first broadside.

Croatia dented the figurative Spanish warship's gunwales with a surprising 2-1 fusillade to hand La Furia Roja it's first loss in Euro 2016.

Fortunately for Spain, this direct hit still only served as a shot across the bow, as the stakes were merely top spot in Group D.

Both clubs will move to bracket play relatively unscathed.

Frankly, Spain's individual stars were outshone by Croatia's superior team play.

It didn't begin that way. In fact, it looked like another Tiki Taka performance in progress when Álvaro Morata scored seven minutes into it:

Maybe some despise this style of play -- hello, Pep; how's tricks? -- but in this particular microcosm, it got the job done.

It took the Vatreni -- the Blazers -- right up to the half before Nikola Kalinić popped an absolutely brilliant leveler:

Orthodox or unorthodox, Spain has finally conceded a goal.

Still, they could've regained the lead, but Sergio Ramos was done in by 'keeper Danijel Subašić and his happy feet:

Man of the match Ivan Perišić underscored that designation by wrapping up a solid day's work when he fired in the decider three minutes from time:

All of Spain’s defensive weaknesses were left exposed in this one.

Dudes have some adjustments to make in the next few days, or they'll be going down with their ship.
