The 'Pool Nearly Lost This One, Too

Prior to last weekend, that little green square on the left was looking pretty lonely:

Liverpool 9th in table

But then that green one on the right appeared when Liverpool escaped with all trois points against Aston Villa in a 3-2 funfest.

It hasn't exactly been happy days for the Reds in any form. A narrowly gained three-pointer is nowhere near enough for this once upon a time giant of English football.

On this day, though, proceedings started brightly for the Reds, thanks to James Milner:

It was a good hit from Mr Free Transfer.

After that, the 'Pool decided ot double its pleasure, as Daniel Sturridge scored:

And they thought Mario Balotelli was the solution to their goal droughts.

Villa wasn't about to make this an easy result for the home team. Just when the Merseysiders looked their best, they showed their worst:

Zounds! An elephant could've fit between Liverpool's defenders.

But Sturridge had a different plan. His form was on the comeback trail:

Their fans must be wondering why the lads can’t always play like this.

The Villans weren't done with testing Liverpool, though, as Rudy Gestede struck again:

A beautiful cross matched by an equally beautiful header matched by equally awful defending.

Brendan Rodgers may have claimed another green square in his quest for tenure, but it's fair to say he still has a thin safety net under his job status.
