Red Card Dooms FC Bayern; Real Madrid Claims Road Win

The clash of the Champions League juggernauts was in every way a ... well ... clash of juggernauts.

Bundesliga titans Bayern Munich saw an early lead slip away against La Liga giants Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal.

Soon thereafter, so did their home advantage, as Los Blancos prevailed, 1-2, in a comeback led by the usual suspect, who was also the usual target for hijinks.

Die Roten took a rare home hit last month when Mainz -- of all clubs -- stuck home an 86th-minute marker from Jhon Córdoba. It was enough to make them seem mortal.

That's still an unresolved issue for Real.

However, they endured a siege of German domination in the first half, yielding a goal from Arturo Vidal:

What a bargain that dude's been for Bayern Munich!

Lately, Cristiano Ronaldo has been quiet. Too quiet.

No longer.

90 seconds into the second half, dude popped his 99th goal in Champions League play:

This set the tone for a second half that was all Real. They totally stuffed the home side.

Javi Martínez apparently made it his personal mission to harass Ronaldo, which soon drew a yellow. Undaunted and/or unrepentant, he kept at it until, a mere three minutes later:

That kinda night.

Nothing like more space to get Ronaldo back on the board again, and Goal No 100 soon followed:

Manuel Neuer may be good against Lionel Messi but ...

Shades of Bill Buckner!

FC Bayern's chances to advance are now slim and none.

And Slim may have just left town.
