Real Madrid Tops Valencia, Stays in La Liga Title Race

One lousy point.

That's all that separates Real Madrid from Barcelona in La Liga's title chase.

It took a bit of doing to keep up, though, as Real found itself in a war with Valencia before prevailing, 3-2.

For the record, crosstown rival Atlético is out of the race after they wet the bed at relegated Levante and are on the wrong end of tiebreakers, should it come to that.

So the return on August investments won't be anywhere near those for the dudes who cashed tickets on Leicester City.

In this one, none other than Cristiano Ronaldo got the home crowd going with the first of his two goals:

Watching him popping, socking, and knocking 'em never gets old.

It looked like another match where Real could hit cruise control when Karim Benzema made his mark in the 42nd minute:

Mr Consistent strikes again.

However, the cushion didn't last long after the half, as Rodrigo blasted a heatseeker.

In times of despair, though, Ronaldo always comes to the rescue:

Dude makes it look super-easy.

Valencia’s André Gomes fired a bazooka that exploded through the home side's defense.

Still not enough.

Here's how Week 38 lines up for the contenders this Sat 14 May:

  • Barcelona travels to Granada, and
  • Real Madrid goes to Deportivo.
