Real Madrid Pops a Pair at the Very End

There are days when even the Big Dogs have to put in a full 90.

And then some.

Real Madrid well and truly needed Cristiano Ronaldo and an extra minute to shock Sporting Lisbon, 2-1, at the extreme end of a stunning Champions League comeback.

It didn't look like that much of a big match on paper, but it was every bit an epic on the field.

To virtually everyone’s surprise at the Bernabéu, a scoreless first half emboldened the Leões to believe they could win this match.

And two minutes after halftime, Bruno César put them in position to do so:

Never mind Real's defensive foibles. That trait's usually a thing anymore. But dude! What a finish!

It stood for 88 minutes. Then, as if it was as if it was written in the stars, legendary Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo scored against the club that taught him the tricks:

The CR7 missile is back with a newer version.

Álvaro Morata wrote the night's perfect script from Real's perspective, scoring one minute into stoppage time:

These dudes are champions for a reason.
