Merseyside Mullings: The 'Pool Considers Bid for Wanyama

Liverpool FC is the latest top club in the Premier League to express interest in signing Kenya’s mid-fielder powerhouse Victor Wanyama.

The 21-year old who currently plies his trade with Scottish champions Celtic has attracted the attention of the Merseyside club, adding the number of teams scouting for him to three, after Arsenal and Manchester United.

For quite some time now, the player has been watched extensively by both Gunners’ manager Arsene Wenger and Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson this season.

According to Liverpool’s manager Brendan Rodgers, the club’s midfield needs to be strengthened and has become a top priority. The Kenyan midfielder best fits the profile of the player that Liverpool is seeking as he can also play centre back.

With one year left on his current contract, Wanyama has denied signing any extensions with Celtic. He is valued at an estimated £10million by most observers, but Celtic coach Neil Lennon begs to differ. He's looking for £25million. But now that a price estimate has been set by the club, meaningful negotiation is sure to follow.

Victor Wanyama is currently camping with his fellow Harambee Stars national teammates, who are set to play against African Cup Champions Nigeria in a 2014 World Cup qualifier on Sat 23 Mar in Calabar, Nigeria.
