Liverpool's Closing In on Second Place

It's a bromide, but it became that way because it's true.

It's not how you start. It's how you finish.

Manchester City went with start fast and stay there, so the pack doing battle behind it has to settle for bromides.

With Manchester United continuing to bumble around, Liverpool's got its sights set on second place, and after a sloggish beginning to the season, they seem to be getting a consistent act together.

 

The 'Pool is doing its bit to close in on United, and now, it's just gotta keep up the pressure.

That includes picking up max points on the road. Like in Southampton.

The Saints are in jeopardy themselves, stuck in the Premiership table's 18th place, and that's not good.

 

So this should've been a match with an intense purpose, but only one club answered the call.

That was the Reds, getting the job done in workmanlike fashion and being rewarded with a 0-2 result.

Despite the big blow of losing main dude Philippe Coutinho, other stars are proving to be well capable of carrying the torch in his absence.

 

Case in point: Mohamed Salah assisting Roberto Firmino for the opening goal in only the 6th minute:

 

Saints who hesitate are lost against the attacking style of Jürgen Klopp's crew.

Who needs Coutinho when you have these two dudes?
