Liverpool Edges Man City, Maintains Pace in Title Chase

By all but one standard, Chelsea's having an historic start to the Premiership season.

Still, Liverpool sent another title warning to the leaders that they show no sign of stopping their chase.

The second-place Reds had to turn away third-place Manchester City, 1-0, on New Year's Eve to keep up.

With the Blues so torrid, all the 'Pool can do right now is go into Pepé Le Pew mode.

After all, sooner or later, odds say the Blues have to cool off.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have a buncha problems to solve, and it looks like Liverpool is one of them. The Citizens were in this one, but couldn't overcome an eighth-minute goal from Georginio Wijnaldum:

Damn. Heatseeker.

As he did against Stoke City, manager Jürgen Klopp pressed the midfield after taking the lead, and the Sky Blues spent the rest of the match being totally undecided as to how to respond.

The best chance probably came when the Reds were being a bit too suave and debonaire:

Even that wasn't very close, but it did show the confidence Liverpool had during the course of the afternoon.

In the process, the Reds proved yet again that dosh isn't all that powerful against hard work and well-deployed tactics.

Thus, the title hopes on Merseyside persist.
