Eagles Spoil Gerrard’s Farewell Party

It was a predictably emotional evening at Anfield, as Captain Steve G took to the pitch for his last match as a Red.

But emotion morphed into exasperation as the 'Pool were defeated 1-3 by Crystal Palace.

Before the match, Captain Fantastic was afforded the honor he richly deserved:

The Guard of Honor.

The match then turned to business as usual, and the home team were the first to find the back of the net:

First,  Aston Villa, and now Crystal Palace. It's not Diabolical Defense Day, dudes.

However, Palace recovered with a flourish. The 'Pool party got its first spoiler when Jason Puncheon pulled the same rabbit out of his hat that he did against Manchester United.

Same man, same foot.

Wilfred Zaha scored the Eagles' second with his first touch of the ball:

Right place. Right time. Great build-up led to it.

This was not the evening Gerrard nor the fans expected.

To make matters worse, Liverpool conceded a late penalty, and a no-doubter at that:

And it was converted, the hard way:

And with Gerrard departing, Liverpool’s luck likely won't be getting much better.
