Chelsea Completes a Crazy Comeback in Southampton

With Manchester City about to assume the mantel of the Premiership's reigning champions, Chelsea apparently felt like serving a reminder of that which is still theirs.

Sorta like going out in a blaze of glory.

Thus, it wasn't a good time for Southampton to show up on the Blues' schedule.

Especially when the Saints are battling to avoid relegation, which isn't going well.

Of course it could.

Like blowing a two-goal lead and winding up on the empty end of a 2-3 Chelsea revival.

Southampton probably thought they had this game in the bag when they popped a pair in the first half, complements of Dušan Tadić and Jan Bednarek:

Damn.

Name the type of crossing play, and the Blues can show you how to screw up defending it.

The second 45, though, was a different story. Drastically.

Arsenal sold sniper Oliver Giroud because he wasn't scoring. The change of scenery, though, seems to have revived him.

Giroud certainly proved his previous employer wrong on this day. Dude combined with Eden Hazard to put on the sorta show Saints fans didn't think they'd be seeing here:

OK, Southampton still has a shot at the trois points and a leap outta the Premiership's bottom three.

But then ...

Bummer, but Saints were still a quarter-hour from a cherished point.

The Premiership is a cash cow for its members, but it isn't a charity.

If a club doesn't earn it, then it's not gonna get it.

And this season, Southampton just doesn't get it.

Three goals inside eight minutes, and Chelsea puts three points in the bag.

Crazy.
