Charlie Austin Drags QPR Up from the Cellar

QPR defeated West Bromwich Albion at home to keep their survival hopes alive.

It's been weeks since QPR breathed air outside the relegation zone. Even relegation-saver specialist Harry Redknapp hasn’t been able to do anything about it. But now, Charlie Austin has stepped up.

Jolean Lescott’s first goal for the Baggies followed by a superb team goal put West Brom in the driver's seat with a 2-0 lead:

And then, QPR’s main man this season, Charlie Austin, decided to take the grand stage with a penalty converted, a crowded tap-in, and a bursting header. On this day, he was a complete striker by definition and every manager’s dream.

Like most Premiership side, West Brom’s nerve got the better of them in the last moment. Usually, it's been the other way around for the Hoops, notably in their match against the 'Pool.

QPR avoid the grips of the bottom for now, but with Arsenal as their next fixture, the table's mushroom beds may be hard to avoid.
