USA Wins WJC Gold in an Instant Classic
There's probably nothing sweeter for an American national hockey team than winning a championship in Canada.
Especially when it's over Canada.
In fact, it'd only happened once in the World Junior Championships, which was a 6-5 overtime thriller in Saskatoon.
Once, that is, until now, in Montréal:
This triumph capped an unbeaten run through the entire event, which included a déjà vu of sorts in bracket play:
Group B pool play ... | USA 3 Russia 2 |
Group B pool play ... | USA 3 Canada 1 |
Semifinals ... | USA 4 Russia 3 so |
Championship ... | USA 5 Canada 4 so |
Looks like the Americans had the dream world covered, too.
