Undefeated Hurricanes Are Ready for NHL Season to Start

Not that Carolina was counting on any fans from Wilmington making it to Opening Night or anything.

But they're generating a bitta buzz from those hockey fans who live inland.

And, as this is likely one of only two occasions the Hurricanes can be a headliner this season, why not share their optimism?

Maybe it's the pre-season, but the 'Canes are 5-0.

Dudes managed to do this by beating the possibly still-celebrating Washington Capitals twice, including last night.

The Caps skated most of their regulars, so this was actually a decent game:

Carolina went 36-35-11 last season, bad enough for eighth place in the Metropolitan Division, which is currently dominated by the Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins, and now, Gritty.

The upshot is Carolina faces challenges from all aspects of an NHL season. They know they're going into it with low expectations from virtually everywhere:

So, why not get pumped about September hockey?

Besides, sometimes teams use the pre-season to instill a winning attitude. The reality is noboby's fooling anybody, but it's the thought that counts as long as the turnstiles are churning.

As to the second time Carolina's sure to make headlines this season, they're going back to their roots when they visit Boston this season:

Too cool.

No matter what happens to them after the exhibition games are but a memory, that is a winner.
