Toronto's Stars Combine to Beat the Dallas Stars

Here's the scary part:

William Nylander still hasn't reported yet.

Michael's oldest kid is 2-for-2 in 20-goal seasons for the Toronto Maple Leafs, but after the club's last two games, it seems like someone else is more than capable of taking up the slack.

That'd be TO's prized off-season acquisition John Tavares, doing what everyone figured he'd do.

Dude's been lighting it up at a crazy pace, if crazy can be defined as keeping up with Auston Matthews.

Both are enjoying a sizzling start to the season. In their first four games ...

  • Tavares has already popped six goals, while
  • Matthews has rung up seven with three helpers, not to mention taking an early lead in the dissin' department.

Yes, it's early. And yes, even though they're showing signs of contention these days, they're still the Leafs.

Still, winning three of their first four games this season -- and averaging five goals per -- is a promising way to start.

That includes tonight's 7-4 stifling of the Dallas Stars where the scoreboard was dominated by TO's current dynamic duo:

Despite their prolific output, Matthews and Tavares still shared the spotlight with Tyler Seguin, who just became the NHL's highest-paid player over the summer.

As seen, dude also registered one goal and three assists to basically be the Stars' offense. This was his second straight four-point game.

No points for that, though.

But since the Stars expect this to be a reloading season, anything helps.

Toronto's sights are set higher, of course. Then again, their fans always have lofty expectations that ultimately shatter. At least, that's not happening before November this time.

The Leafs have fallen in the playoffs' first round in each of the past two seasons. The addition of Tavares is supposed to get them further.

It'll definitely help, but sooner or later, they're gonna need Nylander, too.
