The Shot Dude: Polar Vortex

I woke up to a chilly draft that resonated all the way down to my bones.

That damn polar vortex is sweeping through this region again, but at least it's hockey season.

Your favorite Shot Dude has shaken off the cold and found some piping hot ideas for your fantasy lineup.

All these skaters are on the evening portion of the schedule, but you can check out every game via the Bovada data tool on our Home page:

FanDuel has you covered with the hottest fantasy NHL games around, so head over there today.

Forwards

Patrick KaneChicago ($9000) ... has compiled a massive 13 points in his last 10 games. You'd think his salary would be higher, considering Kane leads the NHL in assists (37), total points (60), and power play points (21). Dude's 23 goals on 155 shots in 43 games are not too shabby, either. He's coming off a nine-shot game in which Buffalo kept him off the score sheet. I love Kane to regain his scoring touch at home against Colorado, whom he just lit up for a goal and two assists on New Year's Eve.

Nicklas Bäckström, Washington ($6800) ... extended his point streak to five straight games with a goal against the Rangers yesterday. Not only did that give Bäckström his 38th point in 38 games, but it was also his 13th goal on just 68 shots. The Caps put their excellent 15-3-1 home record to the test against Ottawa today, who comes in having allowed 66 road goals in 21 games.

Jonathan Huberdeau, Florida ($6100) ... is currently scorching, just like Kane and Bäckström, with 11 points in his last 9 games. Dude's just one shot behind the team lead, with 98 in 41 games this season. Huberdeau has been a solid fantasy producer, notching 4.8 points or higher on FanDuel in 6 of his last with 9 contests. The Panthers battle a floundering Edmonton team that's only posted 3 victories in their last 10 games.

Defensemen

Tyson BarrieColorado ($4600) ... has really improved his scoring frequency with 4 goals and 10 total points in his last 8 games after the lamp only 3 times in the first 30 games for the Avs. Dude's been quite an asset to Colorado's power play, where 14 of his 29 points have come. I foresee a fair amount of scoring in today's game with the Blackhawks and expect Barrie to provide for his team again.

Ryan SuterMinnesota ($4300) ... leads the Wild with a +11 rating and over 28 minutes of ice time per game. Dude's fired 97 shots in 41 games, with 12 coming in his last 3. In fact, Suter is on a pace to shatter his career high of 46 points, which he established with the Predators in the 2011-2012 season. The Wild will skate home ice against struggling New Jersey, losers of three straight and 6 of their last 10.

Wild v Devils

Goaltender

Al MontoyaFlorida ($7700) ... has a great price for a netminder who's not only won four straight starts but has only let one puck past him in each of his last five appearances. In nine starts, dude's registered 6 wins, a tiny 1.69 goals against average, and an awesome .938 save percentage. The blazing Panthers go for consecutive win No 12 today against the faltering Oilers, who've lost 5 of their last 7, mainly due to their 1.86 scoring average over that span.

Your favorite Shot Dude hopes you enjoy a sizzling Sunday of warmth and winning.
