The Shot Dude: Back-to-Back Busters

A quick check of the standings reveals that every NHL team has played as least 53 games, most even more.

What the standings won't expose is the effect that playing back-to-back nights this late in the season has on the legs of NHL skaters.

There are many who think the fatigue on the second night is minimal, but when you factor in travel and sleeping in a strange bed, I'll argue that the more rested team has a distinct advantage.

Your favorite Shot Dude has found some teams playing back-to-backs today that are ripe to pick against. You can gather all teh information you need from the Bovada data tool on our Home page:

Forwards

John TavaresNew York Islanders ($9000) ... is the team leader in goals (20), total points(43), and shots (162) in 50 games this season. Dude's produced 13 of those points in his last 10 games alone. The Islanders square off with an exhausted Carolina team that lost a 2-1 shootout to Pittsburgh last night.

Joe PavelskiSan José ($8000) ... like Tavares, has been hot with 9 points in his last 9 games, giving him a total of 52 in 53 contests. Dude leads the Sharks in total points and goals with 25 on 147 shots on goal. Arizona makes the trip to the Shark Tank tonight after a home 4-1 win against Calgary last night, which was only the third in the last 10 games for the tired Coyotes.

Nick BjugstadFlorida ($5500) ... is too talented to continue his underwhelming play that we've seen this season. There have been flashes, but Bjugstad has been injured and disappointing for Panther fans to watch. With 6 points in his last 8 games, dude's coming to life. I think his late-season run of success starts tonight against a winded Nashville team that lost in overtime last night in Tampa Bay.

Defensmen

Roman JosiNashville ($5700) ... is the Predators' point leader with 40 in 55 games so far. Josi has notched 8 points in his last 9 games and has lit the lamp 11 times on 125 shots to date. Without defensive linemate Shea Weber helping him protect the goal, Nashville would never have accumulated 59 points in the tough Central Division this season. The Preds take on a pooped Florida squad that lost to St. Louis, 5-3, yesterday.

Aaron EkbladFlorida ($5000) ... is one of nine Panthers to have scored 23 or more points this season. This balanced scoring from so many players has Florida in first place by five points in the Atlantic division. Dude's tallied 11 goals on 121 shots in 51 games and shows no ill-effects from an upper-body injury he suffered earlier this season. Although both teams played last night, I think we'll see more scoring than expected in this one.

Goaltender

Ryan MillerVancouver ($8200) ... is the likely starter tonight at home against Toronto. Miller looked exceptional in his last start at Arizona, stopping all but one of the 34 shots he faced in a 2-1 win just three days ago. Dude will be looking for his sixth home win and has posted a solid .922 home save percentage. The injury-riddled Maple Leafs come in on a three-game losing streak and have recorded only 11 victories in 30 road games this season.

Your favorite Shot Dude sincerely hopes that these busters of the teams playing on back-to-backs help you win some green.
