NHL's Kahuna Committee Votes to Recommend Seattle's Expansion Bid

The first American city to celebrate its pro club raising the Stanley Cup is about to be given a shot at doing it again.

Someday.

Seattle and the NHL have been circling each other for so damn long, even casual fans know about the Metropolitans and their 1917 exploits.

Since then, Seattle and hockey have kept in touch.

Today, to the surprise of absolutely nobody, the two all but sealed their vows.

How certain is this?

Seattle mayor Jenny Durkan coulda swung by Times Square to shoot someone, and the NHL guvs woulda provided the ammo.

By now, this deal is so wired that in some social circles, it could be accused of inbreeding.

Among other relationships:

  • Soon-to-be-owner Jerry Bruckheimer is good buds with Commissioner Gary Bettman;
  • Boston Bruins owner a Primo Kahuna Jeremy Jacobs' Delaware North company has the concessions rights to the Seattle arena that just got green-lit;
  • Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik and NHL Seattle President and CEO Tim Leiweke worked together and scratched mutual back with Leiweke was the 'Ning's CEO; and
  • For other Kahunas inhabit arenas that have relationship's with Leiweke's Oak View Group for promotinal and marketing purposes.

Maybe. Maybe not.

But the Trilateral Commission's on Line 1. They'd like a word.
