Mitch Marner Is Almost Decapitated by His Own Stick

Hockey can be a rather violent sport for a number of reasons.

Injuries occur all the time, but they're typically not self-inflicted.

Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs almost became one of those unfortunate statistics.

In a recent game against the Nashville Predators, Marner was chasing down the puck behind the net when this happened:

Feel free to cringe if you must.

That's better.

Obviously, this wasn't what Marner had in mind when he decided to begin his pursuit.

Not only did he almost lop off his own head, the Predators goalie came perilously close to being impaled by the stick.

Fortunately for all concerned, everyone escaped injury-free.

The Leafs are having a pretty good year, and the 19-year old Marner has contributed quite a bit to the cause.

He just needs to mind the apparatus in the future.
