Islanders Rookie Plays Puck from Penalty Box

There are many rules in professional sports that could be interpreted as vague or ambiguous.

NFL guidelines on what constitutes a legal catch immediately leap to mind.

However, there are some rules that are fairly obvious and require only a modicum of common sense.

Here's one:

Don't make a play on the puck while in the penalty box.

Right, Mathew Barzal?

Yep, that definitely happened.

Of course, the rookie forward was about to exit the sin bin, but honestly, playing the puck from the penalty box sorta nullifies the man advantage for the other team.

This is certainly one way to introduce yourself to the professional ranks.

The announcer was giving the kid the benefit of the doubt, suggesting he probably didn’t know the rule.

Of course, that's being rather generous.

For his crime against logic and reason, Barzal was forced to return to the penalty box, and with any luck, dude used this time to ponder life’s other great mysteries.
