Capitals' 6-Spot Wilts Golden Knights' 4-Leaf Clover

Here's another what-should-be-obvious reason why the Stanley Cup finals are going the way they currently are:

Marc-André Fleury is no secret to the Washington Capitals.

They saw more than their share of his skills during his 13-year stint in Pittsburgh.

Dude sent them packing on numerous occasions during that time, including last year when he stood in for the injured Matt Moore.

Ironically, that shutout and one in this year's regular season are two of Fleury's few shining moments in his 14 playoff games against Washington, where ...

  • Dude only had a .902 career playoff save percentage,
  • Allowed at least three goals in eight of those games, and
  • Allowed at least four goals in four of them.

What's more, Alexander Ovechkin has had continuous success against Fleury in the playoffs. In those 14 games, the Crushin' Russian has sniped 10 goals.

So, combined with the Caps' full-frontal blunting of the Knights' swarm tactics, maybe these last three results in the Finals shouldn't be all that surprising.

Although it didn't seem like Fleury was at fault in virtually all of Washington's goals in their 6-2 romp in Game 4, the Capitals sure knew where to find their openings:

Fleury got, like, zero help in this one.

And, as James Neal's pinger off the post showed, it seems like any puck luck Vegas had been enjoying this season has left the building.
