The Real Reason the Eagles Cut DeSean Jackson

It was apparently no surprise to his Philadelphia Eagles teammates that wide receiver DeSean Jackson was released.

The timing wasn't much of a coincidence, either.

When a newspaper's investigative report cites chapter and verse about Jackson's alleged gang involvement, it was time for him to go. Jackson has denied the details, but this wasn't the only issue Chip Kelly and other Eagles players had with him. In fact, they're more than glad to see him go. His actions at practices and on the sidelines during game days didn't endear him to many of them.

It sounds like Jackson is just a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.

In short, he sounds like he is on the verge of becoming another Aaron Hernandez. Before his arrest, the former Patriot tight end hung around shady characters, too, and just like Jackson is alleged to have, a gang affiliation appeared to be front and center.

Although not much was initially reported about Hernandez's antics in the locker room prior to his arrest, New England had concerns about who his influences were off the field.

But unlike the Patriots, the Eagles had the hindsight to cut Jackson loose before anything else happens. Smart move.

But this is the NFL and Jackson is too good not  to be picked up by someone.

Word is former Eagles coach Andy Reid is among those interested, too. Maybe he's thinking about turning the Kansas City Chiefs in Eagles West. Still, the question would be whether Jackson was worth the headache.
