Staubach: Cowboys Lucky to Have Romo

Tony Romo may not have the love of some of the media or Dallas fans, but he did get some love from probably the greatest Dallas Cowboy of all-time.

Roger Staubach.

The legendary quarterback said in a recent interview that the Cowboys are lucky to have Romo as their quarterback.

“I’m a Tony Romo fan," Staubach recently told KRLD-FM. “I think Tony Romo is a championship quarterback. He can take a team to a championship. He can’t do it by himself, but I really believe he can do it. I just see what he does on the field, the plays he makes, the throws he makes, the sense that he has to move in the pocket, so I’m pulling really hard for Tony because I really believe he is one heck of a quarterback, and that’s a feeling from somebody that I didn’t say that about any other quarterbacks except for Troy Aikman. I think Tony is the right quarterback, and we’re lucky to have Tony Romo.”

While that sounds more like a redundant affirmation from the Stuart Smalley school of self-improvement, it's clear where this former naval officer stands.

Staubach and Troy Aikman both brought home the Lombardi Trophy to Texas Stadium. Hell, even Danny White took the Cowboys to the playoffs, and even he gets more respect than Romo from Cowboys fans.

Staubach may be right about Romo, but it's going to take more than a high recommendation from him to convince Cowboys fans that Romo is the right man for the job.

It's going to take a Super Bowl victory ... well, downsize that ... at least one playoff victory with Romo at the helm before even tbe illustrious Mr Staubach will get much traction from that endorsement.
