Packer Whacker Barr Ends Rodgers' Season; Leaves Later with Concussion

The Minnesota Vikings won the game, 23-10, at the cost of a starting outside linebacker.

The Green Bay Packer not only lost the game, their starting slinger's toast for the season.

In a plug-&-play league at virtually every position but one, this will no doubt offer further proof why damn near everyone gets paid less than starting quarterbacks.

Especially when it's one of the NFL elite and most marketable quarterbacks.

Well, this is why those front-office suits make the big bucks.

With Aaron Rodgers done like dinner when his collarbone snapped under the weight of Anthony Barr, the pressure shifted to Packers GM Ted Thompson to figure out the team's next move.

Damn. They are taking it hard.

But not as hard as that hit was:

Rodgers thought it was late, but face it, getting knocked out for the season kinda makes whether or not the hit shoulda been a penalty irrelevant.

In the sports media's attempt to clickbait what happens next by tossing familiar names out there as a replacement -- Colin Kaepernick, anybody? Tony Romo? -- the Packers promptly reminded everyone that Brett Hundley's on the roster for more than skillfully carrying a clipboard.

Yes, dude threw three picks against the Vikings after entering for Rodgers, but keep two items in mind:

  • Like any NFL team does, the Pack spent all week preparing for Rodgers leading the offense, and
  • Like any NFL team does, the backup gets virtually zero reps all week in practice.

So, Green Bay's plan went out the window along with Rodgers. They were thus reduced to a basic set of plays, which helped the Vikings immeasurably.

So now, the game plans will feature Hundley's attributes, among them of which is more mobility.

Not sayin' the former UCLA Bruin is gonna lead Green Bay to a miracle finish, but odds are they'll still be competitive.

Besides, it's not like the NFC North is select company.
