Namath and Jets Not On Speaking Terms

Today is Joe Namath's birthday, and as we celebrate one of the NFL's greatest quarterbacks, it's interesting to note that on this day, the one person or persons from whom he will not probably not be hearing is his former team, the New York Jets.

It's being reported by Namath himself that he and the Jets are not on speaking terms. After you read Namath's explanation as to why, you'll clearly understand.

Namath basically accused his former team of fraud and lying to their fan base.

“The team’s declined while we fans are being told how good they are constantly, how this new player’s so good,” Namath said. “They haven’t played up to how they’ve been touted. And so I think they’ve misled the fans more or less.  hey’ve made some bad decisions on personnel the last couple of years.”

“I wouldn’t say bad terms, you know?” Namath continued. “Uncomfortable. Because I was saying earlier, you don’t like to hear negative things, negative vibes, and Woody I’m sure doesn’t like the criticism. I mean, when we’ve brushed shoulders in the past it hasn’t been the same as it was originally. We don’t talk — ‘Hi, how are ya?’

Namath is right about the poor decisions the Jets have made. When is the last time the Jets made the playoffs? And what was the point of trading for Tim Tebow, not playing him, and then really getting nothing for him?

And let's not forget the trading of your favorite man-island, Darrelle Revis, to Tampa Bay. Time will tell if that was a failure, as well.

Namath has always been critical of the Jets and how they run things, so this really isn't new, but what is new is how deeply the divide has become between the two sides.

Iif the Jets expect him to keep his mouth shut, they'll be waiting until they win their next Super Bowl.

In short, they might be waiting until hell freezes over.
