Miami Making Big Splash In Free Agencey

Miami might be thinking they're the pre-draft Super Bowl winner already.

The Dolphins have picked up former Pittsburgh Steeler wide receiver Mike Wallace and Baltimore Ravens linebacker Danelle Ellerbe, who is fresh off a real Super Bowl victory.

Instead of locking up Jake Long, the Dolphins seem to have placed their faith in Jonathan Martin, a second-round pick in the 2012 draft from Stanford, who started all 16 games last year.

Basically, the Dolphins have gone with a one-dimensional flash player and an unproven commodity. While Mike Wallace is good, there’s no telling how good. He's coming off an unimpressive year in the Todd Haley system where the Steelers threw more, but somehow Wallace had lower numbers in both in yards and receptions. It will be interesting to see how he’ll fare in the Joe Philbin system.

As for Ellerbe, what is there to say? No, literally. What is there to say?

Essentially, the Peter Criss of the Ravens linebacking corps last year, Ellerbe had respectable stats, but is he really worth $35million over five years after only starting 13 games last season? A key factor will be how well he handles a system change, going from the Ravens' 3-4 scheme to a 4-3 team and handling the bulk of the work.

Gut call says that this is Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland's last hurrah and he wants to do or die with his own gut calls.

In doing so, he runs a real risk in leaving the team in worse conditions than when he started.
