Geno Smith Not Impressive in Workouts with the Jets

Paging Tim Tebow! Paging Tim Tebow!

It seems that the quarterback competition we all expected out of the New York Jets camp between Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez hasn't taken place.

At least, not yet, according to reports.

Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com said the second-rounder “hasn’t blown anybody away, the way Russell Wilson did last season when he walked into the Seahawks’ facility.”

First of all, this is the first time the kid has been on the field, and he's a rookie. Not too many rookie QB's come out their first time looking like an all-pro. There are plenty of quarterbacks who started slow and then displayed their value when they got into a game on a regular basis.

Secondly, the Jets offense could make Tom Brady and Peyton Manning look bad. There is little to no imagination to their offense, so why should anyone be shocked?

We tend to forget that, coming out of college, Mark Sanchez was a pretty damn good quarterback. That is, until he went to the Jets. Now Sanchez looks like a freshman again.

Maybe Smith will get better when camp opens in the fall, but if history tells us anything, he'll be riding the pine with Greg McElroy.

I guess Joe Namath was right, after all.
