Free Agent Kerry Rhodes Denies Gay Rumors

Looks like Kordell Stewart is not the only NFL player having his sexuality questioned.

Former New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals safety Kerry Rhodes had to come out -- so to speak -- Thursday and deny reports from several media outlets that he is gay.

Some pictures of Rhodes and a former assistant -- who is of the male persuasion -- appeared through one of those media outlets, showing Rhodes looking cozy with the former assistant. It had enough of a wink-wink inference that Rhodes felt compelled to declare he is straight.

"Photos have been circulating of my former assistant and [me] that have caused some rumors regarding my sexuality, and I wanted to address the situation," he said. "I am not gay."

Rhodes added that those photos were taken a few years ago when he was on vacation with his entire business team. The problem is we don't see other pictures of him with his 'entire business team;' we just see Rhodes and his ex-assistant.

Unlike Kordell Stewart, who has yet to have photos surface of him with another man, if you view some of the Rhodes' pictures, it does make you wonder.

Rhodes' sexuality shouldn't matter, but since the NFL has turned this into a story by questioning athletes' preferences since the Manti Te'o incident,  the impact of this insinuation might be Rhodes, who is a free agent, if this is hurting his chances of making another NFL roster.

Right about now, he probably wishes he was a hockey player, where this story wouldn't be as much of an issue. And no one -- no one -- is going to question the virility of a hockey player.
