Eagles Make Philly 'Chief'-Steaks

This week's Thursday night NFL match-up has the Chiefs and Eagles squaring off in Philadelphia with Bovada tabbing Philadelphia as a 3½-point favorite

I like Andy Reid, and already see definite signs of him digging the Chiefs out of the depths of the AFC, but this is a tough spot for his team to be in.

You might think otherwise by checking out Bovada's 'supergrid' on the Home page. There, you'll see the Chiefs are second in the NFL in points allowed and second in rushing yards allowed. Here's the problem: their two games are against pitiful Jacksonville and Dallas, who has also had trouble getting DeMarco Murray going. To further the point, Jacksonville -- as also seen on the supergrid in their game -- is the 30th team in the league in rushing yards per game, and Dallas is at 26. So I think this is more a case of the opponents' ineptitude rather than Kansas City dominance.

Now using that same tool, notice Philadelphia. They are 3rd in the NFL at 181 yards per game on the ground, and with Chip Kelly's fast-paced offense, I think Kansas City is in for a rude awakening.

Also, expect the Eagles to come out with a chip on their shoulders (pun intended). The Eagles are coming off an upset loss to San Diego at home Sunday, and this is a chance to quickly erase the bad taste of it.

Kansas City will be much improved this season; they just may not look it tonight. It's a tough Eagle team to prepare for on a short week while playing on the road.

I like the Eagles here, and it's worth going a little extra on them to set up the weekend bankroll.

My pick: Philadelphia Eagles   -3½

UPDATE:

Result ... Kansas City 26 Philadelphia 16     Chiefs cover
