Dr Phil Sues Deadspin Over Te'o Story

Manti Te'o wasn't the only one upset over the whole fake girlfriend hoax.

So was Dr Phil McGraw. 

Dr Phil thought he had the scoop on the whole Te'o scandal. That is, he did until the website Deadspin scooped him.

The good quack -- I mean doctor -- is upset because the website upstaged his interview with Te'o's 'girlfriend,' Ronaiah Tuiasosopo.

Tuiasosopo was going to demonstrate how he fooled Te'o into believing he was a girl, but Deadspin got to the tapes and published them on their site.

Now, Phil is upset with the site because he lost ratings over this big reveal.

Keep in mind, the interview was put off a week, and by then, this was becoming a non-story. Mantei had started hitting the talk show circuit to discuss the whole sordid affair.

How did that work out for you, Dr Phil?

It's not as if the Dr Phil needs the money, or the ratings, for that matter. Phil is upset that a relentlessly ambitious media outlet did what the mainstream media used to do for years, and that's keep digging to get the story.

If anything, he should be suing the producers of his show for letting him put the matter off for week, or in Dr Phil speak, "putting dead catfish in a pond." (OK, I made that up. Not bad, either, if I do say so myself. Now, if I can only get in touch with Oprah!)

Dr Phil just found out that in the sports world, what is big news one day could be a dead story the next day.
