DC Disruption: Are the Redskins Losing Confidence in RGIII?

The heat is being turned up on Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III.

There have been questions about Griffin's play from both former and current Redskins.

Hell, there are even questions about why his suffix -- the III -- is on his jersey next to his last name. A suffix isn't part of a last name. Yes, it's a marketing thing, but other players can't put anything extra on their jerseys for marketing purposes.

But back to the main questions.

" Why not play [back-up QB Kirk] Cousins?" asked Redskins legend SonnyJurgensen on the radio broadcast Sunday.

“It’s not pulling the plug, it’s getting a change,” he continued. “Make a change. Can it be any worse? You get four yards passing in a half? I would look at the other quarterback; see if he can make something happen. It’s not the end of the world. They take out pitchers, don’t they?”

Former Hall of Fame cornerback Darrell Green echoed Jurgernsen's concerns about RG III.

It’s not very good. It’s not very good ... I think that it’s been rough, but it looks like the kid -- and I’m talking about RGIII -- it looks like he’s starting to get it back. But I just feel so bad that you would have a system where it’s all predicated on this guy running. He’s the second rusher on the team. It doesn’t work, in my opinion.”

“I think that’s the problem,” Green went on to say. “I think it’s super-important to have leadership, and I don’t think he really is the leader."

Not exactly a ringing endorsement of the quarterback or head coach Mike Shanahan, whom Griffin questioned this week about his play-calling against the Eagles.

But even current Redskins think Griffin should step up his game and take more responsibility for his role in the Skins' failures.

Remember last year, when this kid was the future of the NFL? Now his present status with the Redskins is being questioned.

Whatever's going on in DC is not good, but hey, Skin fans: Take comfort in knowing it could be worse.

You could be a fan of the Miami Dolphins.
