Beauty Is in the Eye of the Beholder
Lennay Kekua is the amorphous and imitative girl of Manti Te'o dreams.
Despite the fact that she is factitious, in weird way, she's alive. Maxim magazine ranked Manti Te’o's fake girlfriend 69th out of its annual Hot 100 list of the world’s sexiest women.
Why?
Maxim explains that “After Manti Te’o's fake girlfriend hoax of 2012, we think it might be nice to have an invisible girl of our own to love. Why not? She’s got a ton of great qualities, including looking awesome in a bikini.”
Significance?
For Manti, it's a continuation of the story he thought would dissipate once he made it into the NFL. Clearly, that isn't happening anytime soon.
For Maxim, it may be a test that their list is very subjective, as these things always are. Miley Cyrus is at the top of the list; that in itself should give you second thoughts about the validity of the poll.
For the 31 ladies below Te'o's fantasy girl, such as Zooey Deschanel and Jessica Chastain, I guess they are pondering what they could have done to beat out the non-existent Lennay Kekua. They're all lucky Barbie didn't make the list, especially not a real one.
For the average American woman, we don't have a chance if some of the brightest stars in the world can't compete with a figment of one's imagination.
The moral of this story is that the old pharse stands true, only now with a twist: Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, even when there's nothing there to see.
