Power meets perfection for college football's national championship.
Clemson's kept on winning all season long, but theirs will be long again when they face Alabama. Like -7 long.
The undefeated Tigers were underdogs in the Orange Bowl against Oklahoma, with a mystery loss to Texas being their only blemish on the year.
There was no need for Sherlock Holmes after Dabo Sweeney's crew got their act together:
The Tigers' quick in-game tweaks typified why Sweeney was named AP Coach of the year.
Much was made of the point that Oklahoma never faced a Big XII contender's quarterback -- due to injuries -- during their run to the title. And yes, DeShaun Watson's 145 ground yards put the Sooner D on its heels. But for all the analysis of key players, it was intangibles like this that typified Clemson's edge:
Punter Andy Teasdall nailing a pass is one thing, but fat-dude freshman DT Christian Wilkins hauling it in is beyond impressive.
That's Sweeney's unconventional thinking at its best.
It'll take a combination of creativity and execution to overcome the Crimson Tide, ie- a force of another kind.
But it's been done.
