Pelini's Rants Growing Tiresome with Husker Fans

Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini is not the warm and fuzzy type and never was.

So when the website Deadspin released audio tapes (NSFW, by the way) of Pelini's ranting, it wasn't that big of a surprise.

Seriously, hasn't the man been doing this since he stepped on campus? I thought that was one of the things Cornhusker fans loved about him, that he was a no-nonsense kind of guy.

Limited vocabulary, yes. But no-nonsense.

The problem is, this kind of thing doesn't wash any more with the fan base, and his latest rant won't help his case.

Our crowd. What a bunch of f------ fair-weather f------ — they can all kiss my ass out the f------ door. 'Cause the day is f------ coming now. We'll see what they can do when I'm f------ gone!

Granted that this was two years ago, and yes, the man's program wins about nine games a year, but that didn't save Frank Solich, did it? Plus, Pelini hasn't won a Big Ten title, and the Cornhuskers aren't contending for a national title, either. Again.

They are, however, are in contention for national joke of the college football world especially after this past Saturday.

May be that's an unfair statement, but Nebraska -- like Alabama, like Michigan, like Texas, like Notre Dame -- has a proud tradition of winning big, not losing big. 

Most people thought that when Pelini came from the SEC, he'd be bringing SEC-type players with him or, at least ,attract them, but he hasn't.

He sounds and acts like an SEC coach, but he wins like a second-rate Big Ten coach, which is why he is in trouble now.

When you are a Nick Saban or a Will Muschamp, you can rant and rave all you want. They have won big and tasted success.

But when you are Bo Pelini, who hasn't done either,can you really afford to alienate your fan base and ex-players?

My guess is probably not.
