Is Kirby Smart leaving Alabama?

If anybody thought that Kirby Smart's job prospects would be hurt by the Alabama defense struggling at the end of the year, they should think again.

Smart is being considered for two positions: head coach at Vanderbilt and defensive coordinator at his alma mater, Georgia.

Both are great opportunities, but which one is better? At Vanderbilt, he'd be his own man and could run the show from the get go. It seems as if James Franklin has left a foundation there that will only grow with new recruits. Plus, Smart will probably double his salary.

Problem is, it's still Vanderbilt. Most college football experts say he'd be better off staying at 'Bama.

On the other hand, Georgia might be a better situation. Mark Richt is on the hot seat, so if he gets fired, Smart could well be in the perfect position to take his place.

Which a vast number of Georgia fans want.

Georgia also has more talent than Vanderbilt on defensive side of the ball. Still, Smart would only be making the same salary as he is right now at Alabama. And if Richt is successful next season, Smart would merely be in the same position he is now, which is a coach in waiting,

Smart has yet to comment on either possibility, but if I were him, I'd strike while the iron is hot. If the Crimson Tide defense continues to play in 2014 as it did at the end of this season, he could be looking for work next year, anyway.
