Changing the Pace

Tonight in Atlanta, college football will look a little more like the old days.
Spread offenses and the no-huddle will be replaced with a lot more three-yard clouds of dust when Georgia Tech plays host to Virginia Tech.
In the Yellow Jackets' case, that might even be five- and ten-yard clouds of dust, as they live and die by the triple option. Here's a typical read-and-react play for them:
It's a time-consuming attack, and combined with the Hokies' conservative offense, the play here is an under on Bovada's total of 52.
There are signs all over the match-up page on Bovada's data tool on our Home page to point you in that direction.
Let's start with the Yellow Jackets running the ball for 267 yards per game:
Again, they run it a lot and run it well, but as mentioned, one other thing runs a lot when Georgia Tech plays, and that's the clock.
And when you play the under, a running clock is your friend.
This is even more of a factor tonight, considering the Georgia Tech ground game's historical success against Virginia Tech has been so strong:
Other supporting data includes the under hitting in four of the Hokie's last five ...
... and seven of their last nine on the road
And, by the way, under players have cashed seven of the last eight times these two teams have clashed head-to-head.
I wouldn't expect this one to be a thing of beauty when it comes to style points, but cashing a winning ticket is always a beautiful thing.
For those who play the under, that's just what they'll get to do.
My pick: Virginia Tech v Georgia Tech ... under 52
***
Result: Hokies 23 Yellow Jackets 21 ... under covers
