No, the CalBears' head coach isn't a present-day Cassandra.
Sonny Dykes' prediction was based on logic.
And dude's got a point.
Immediately after his club's circus of a game at Oregon, Dykes was all over the Pac-12 poobahs for bowing too deeply before the TV gods at the expense of student-athletes. And the University of California at Berkeley does take that term seriously.
Thus, it wasn't gonna be a surprise to him that -- given a short week to prepare and heal -- the Golden Bears were well and truly gonna be up against it at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
They well and truly were.
Here's the deal:
- The Pac-12 raked in $3billion over 12 years for the right to televise its football games.
- The Pac-12 After Dark obligation is for 10pm Eastern/7pm Pacific kickoffs on Thu-Fri-Sat.
This puts road teams back on their campus around 3am-4am.
And this time of year is loaded with mid-terms.
No wonder Dykes is steamed, even if TV money makes him a well-paid coach.
