Airing It Out on the Smurf Turf

Only one game is on the Friday football agenda, but it looks to be a fun one if you like watching points rack up.

And practically everyone does except for defensive coaches.

The match-up is Air Force and Boise State, and I think it has a chance to really light things up on the 'Smurf Turf' in Boise.

Bovada has the total set at 57, and I think these two offenses -- and defenses -- have a chance to shatter that mark with relative ease.

The facts can be made clear by clicking the Bovada data tool on the Home page. There, you will find that each team is scoring and giving up at least 26 points per game. Neither of them has shown any consistency at all about stopping the run. In fact, Boise State is giving up over 200 yards a game on the ground. That's not the kind of number that would give one much confidence in Boise State stopping the Falcon triple-option attack, freshman quarterback or not.

But the story isn't much better on the other side of the ball, where Air Force is giving up 438 yards a game. In the meantime, the average total in Boise State's two games is 60½ points.

These two teams met up two years ago and combined for 63 points. Even though this match-up has a host of new faces, both of them are still very capable of putting a lot of points on the board and will normally need to do so in order to have a chance at winning.

Don't sweat the four scores Boise State will be laying to cover and settle for the fact that this one will simply provide a lot of points, and over bettors a win.

My pick:  Air Force at Boise State     over 57

UPDATE:

Result ... Boise State 42 Air Force 20     Total points = 62     over covers
