Bovada Posts March Madness Odds: Many Are In, Few Can Win

According to the oddsmakers at Bovada, it looks like Marquette is going to need help in high places to go very deep into the NCAA tournment this year.

The Golden Eagles earned a double-bye in the final Big East tournament (in its current form) and promptly got bounced from it by Notre Dame. The Selection Committee clearly figured it was a minor setback in the bigger scheme of bracketing, but the crowd at Bovada isn't so sure.

Neither, it seems, is Marquette coach Buzz Williams. He was blunt about it. "It's all about perspective," he mused at his press conference. "Are they going to be fired up because we peed down our leg in New York? Or are they going to be timid because we peed down our leg in New York?"

66:1 says 'timid' at loud volume.

Elsewhere, the quirkiest match-up in the early going features California and UNLV. While Marquette is looking for assistance from above, the team from Sin City got apparently got the treatement from below. The Runnin' Rebels ventured into the Bay Area already this season and toppled the Golden Bears. Now, they'll have to do it again. That could be tough. Usually, when lightning strikes twice, the bolts are coming from above.

Gonzaga has fair odds for a top seed, as does Kansas in what seems to be a wide open tournament. The Zags were a huge bargain only a month ago. Their rapid rise in the rankings this year hasn't seemed to affect them as much as it has their critics, because Coach Mark Few annually assembles a non-conference schedule designed to steel the team for March Madness. Now's the time to see how well it worked this time around.

However, according to Bovada, the title game will pit Louisville and Indiana. If so, the victor would still bring a decent payout. Here's the field in order of seeding:
